How to remove soap scum from tile and grout
Nobody likes cleaning their own tile, and especially not the grout! It usually means hours on your hands and needs with multiple cleaning bottles, brushes and sore knees. But without doing all that, how do you get stubborn soap scum stains off the grout?
Well in addition to hot high pressure washing, we use a safe but strong acidic cleaner to break down the water and soap build up. Sometimes with white soap scum on tile, it takes multiple applications. The build up, especially if it’s been years, can sometimes be so strong that no amount of scrubbing or dwell time with cleaning products can make it budge. Sometimes what you need is to introduce the cleaner to each layer of soap build up. The before and after photos below were treated about 20-25 times just for this one area! That’s because the product could only penetrate so much at time, so after applying, we would have to scrub and extract, then reapply. Each time, only a small portion would come off.
